A Face Lift For Your Vanity Top

The staff at Maid Right gets asked questions about residential cleaning on a regular basis. We almost always have answers to the various questions we receive from our customers and web visitors. In some cases, these questions are so good we write about them and post them to blogs to invite those outside of our reach to learn something new about the world of cleaning.

One very popular question is how to improve the condition of our customer’s vanities. If your home is older than a few years, you may have wondered this yourself. Vanity tops, and all cultured or cast marble products in general, have a tendency to show swirls, scratches, and become dull over time. In a little over a year these tops may look as if you pulled them from a 20 year old home. So what do you do besides costly replacement?

Well the answer might surprise you! First, make sure the top is completely clean. Use a mild cleaner, like Windex, to complete clean the surface. Next, and this is the good part, head to your garage, or wherever you keep your automotive wax. That’s right, I said automotive wax. Waxes such as Turtlewax, Zymol, etc., almost any automotive way will do the trick. Using the product sparingly with a soft terry cloth or micro fiber cloth spread the product in 12″ circular patterns overlapping each other. Buff the entire surface, and the bowl if desired, as needed. Some tops may require a 2nd application. Let the product dry based on the manufacturers recommendations and then remove the haze left with a micro fiber cloth.

That’s it. With this process you will restore the original luster of your cultured marble top. Fine and shallow scratches will work out of the surface. You will effectively take years off the look of your vanity top.
